Frightened Rabbit’s The Midnight Organ Fight is a great album. The album is raucous and boozy. And the organs in referred to in the album’s title are clearly sex organs. Yes, a good portion of the album, if not the entire thing, dissects sex: the act, the need, the consequences, the power struggles, and all those angsty emotions generated by sex. The lyrics are frank and the emotional text is naked.

Hailing from Newcastle upon Tyne, Lanterns on the Lake (née Greenspace) formed in 2007. Frankly, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of information about the band out there. I can’t find any information about an impending album or any tour dates outside of the UK. But the band’s sparse, yet generous, myspace page contains several songs for download.

Hazel Wilde’s dreamy vocals have the vulnerable and yearning qualities of an insomniac. “This Year” is built around a simple guitar figure that soars and descends as Wilde sings about the hope and pragmatism of changing one’s life. “Caught on the Way” deals with similar themes.

I love the songs the band has released. I hope they will release an album and play in NYC.

Joe showed this blog to me and I love it.

I also love this song. I like the school house rock original verson. The dancers in the background kind of make the video for me. Especially when they jump and click their heels. I’m a total sucker for people dancing in the street.

Dolly Parton is playing Radio City Music Hall tonight. Frankly, I’m more excited than when the pope showed up a few weeks ago. (Who cares about the pope? Catholics?) I bet most New Yorkers would agree. What can I say about her that hasn’t already been written? She’s Dolly Parton!

To celebrate, here are some of my favorite songs by Dolly:

From The Rose and The Briar:

Down From Dover

From The Essential Dolly Parton, Volume 2:

“Here You Come Again”

“It’s All Wrong, But It’s All Right”

From Halos and Horns:

“Stairway to Heaven”
