It’s been busy for the last month. Between my day job and my freelance work, I haven’t had any time to devote to update Brontosaur.us, but I’m back.
Have you heard Estelle’s “American Boy?” Estelle is another British import; “American Boy” is a completely infectious, dancey pop song. I first heard the song on So You Think You Can Dance.
The SYTYCD-edited version of the song is clunky; it doesn’t capture the groove of the entire song. I was a little surprised by how satisfying and engaging the full version is. Kayne and Estelle compliment each of so nicely, much like that buzzy-beat in the chorus compliments the softer sections. The song is so catchy it has inspired several remixes and even white guys to dance around with each other.
Try to resist.

You probably remember Robyn from “Do You Know (What It Takes)” released in 1997. Yeah, I hate that song too.
But Robyn’s “With Every Heartbeat” is a perfect song. It’s been stuck in my head for days.

We saw Le Loup (think “lay loo”) at the Bowery Ballroom during CMJ. We were blown away. Tonight they are playing at the Mercury Lounge and we are ecstatic that we have tickets to see them. (They recently played in DC.)
If you have any interest in this band or great music, you should listen to the live performance they recorded for KEXP in October. They’ll knock your socks off. Their sound is rowdy and jubilant. Oh, and they have three guitarists and a banjoist! Unfortunately, the show doesn’t seem to be listed in KEXP’s archive as of today. But you can find the podcast if you subscribe to the KEXP Live Performances podcast on iTunes.

Honestly, we can’t say enough. Go see this band. One caveat: their album, The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations’ Millenium General Assembly, was recorded before the band evolved from one member to seven which is why it sounds very different — a lot of people are missing.
We saw The Foals open for Band of Horses during CMJ at the Bowery Ballroom. Since then we’ve had on heavy rotation every song by The Foals that we downloaded off The Hype Machine. The band is described as dance-punk, kind of bordering on math rock — one of their songs is called “Mathletics.” We are not interested in debates about taxonomy here. The Foals sound a bit like Bloc Party (maybe it’s the English accents) and sort of like a beautiful alarm clock (if that’s possible).
The Foals only have four singles. Feast on this and you’ll be salivating for their impending album:
